This notice explains what we do with your personal information when you use our website, contact us, book a table or activate one of our invitations. We have written it in plain English, because a privacy notice nobody can read is not much of a privacy notice.

Who we are

The71 Grill & Lounge is the data controller for the information described here. That means we decide what is collected and what it is used for.

If you have a question about anything in this notice, email info@the71.uk and ask for the person responsible for data protection.

Our invitation campaign

If you received one of our printed invitations and activated it at the71.uk/activate, this section is the one that applies to you.

What we ask for, and why

Your name So we can put the invitation in your name and find it when you arrive at the restaurant.
Your email address So we can email you the invitation itself, the offer it carries and the date it runs out. We also send one reminder if the expiry date is approaching and you have not been in yet.
Your phone number So we can reach you if there is a problem with your booking or your invitation.
Your postcode So we can see which streets our invitations reached and how far people travel to us. We look at this in groups, never to single anybody out.
Your date of birth So we can send you an offer around your birthday. We only do that if you have ticked the box asking to hear from us. If you have not, your date of birth is not used for anything else.
Your invitation code The code printed on your card tells us which of the three invitation designs you received, which is how we know which offer to give you.
Your IP address Recorded automatically when you activate, so we can stop somebody running through codes that are not theirs. Nothing else is done with it.

What happens next

We email your invitation to you straight away. If you have not visited us and your invitation is close to expiring, we send one reminder and nothing after that. When you come in, a member of our team looks your invitation up by your surname, postcode or code and marks it as used. We keep a record of who marked it used and when, so we can sort out any confusion at the table.

Our lawful basis

How long we keep it

We keep the details you gave us on the activation form for twelve months after the campaign closes, so we can deal with any query about an invitation and understand how the campaign performed. After that we delete them.

If you asked to hear from us, we keep your name, email address and date of birth on our mailing list until you tell us to stop. Every marketing email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask.

Other ways we handle your information

Booking a table or sending an enquiry

When you fill in a reservation or enquiry form on this website, or email or call us, we use what you give us to answer you and to hold your booking. We keep enquiry correspondence for twenty four months and then delete it. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, and in taking steps at your request before providing a service.

Private hire and events

If you enquire about a private event we keep the details of your enquiry and any quote or booking that follows, so we can plan and deliver the event and keep proper business records. We keep event records for six years, which is the period we are expected to keep financial records for.

Visiting the website

Our website sets cookies. When you first arrive you are asked which ones you are happy with, and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link on the site.

Our web host also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass it to anybody so they can market to you. We do use a small number of suppliers who handle information on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions.

Some of these suppliers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the safeguards required under UK data protection law, such as the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses.

We may also share information where we are legally required to, or where we need to establish or defend a legal claim.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

To use any of these, email info@the71.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Children

Our website and our invitation campaign are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their details, tell us and we will delete them.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
